Nea Karvali is a coastal resort town located in the Kavala municipality of Northern Greece. Situated just east of Kavala city, it is famously known across Greece for its rich Cappadocian refugee heritage, its sandy beaches, and its world-renowned traditional sweet, the kourabie.

🍪 The Capital of Kourabiedes
Nea Karvali is legendary for producing the best kourabiedes (traditional almond shortbread cookies dusted with powdered sugar) in Greece. Visitors passing through the area on the old national road regularly stop at local workshops to purchase these freshly baked treats.
 
🏛️ Cultural & Historical Highlights
  • Church of Agios Grigorios o Theologos: Built by Cappadocian refugees who settled here in the 1920s. The church houses the holy relics of St. Gregory the Theologian, which the refugees carried with them from their original homeland in Karvali, Cappadocia.
  • Historical Ethnological Museum: A fascinating museum dedicated to the heritage of the Cappadocian Greeks, showcasing traditional costumes, tools, and religious artifacts.
  • Akontisma: Located on an isolated hill on the outskirts, Akontisma is a reconstructed traditional stone village and cultural hub. It features an amphitheater that hosts major music concerts and theatrical performances every summer.
